Hellooo how cool are these?? Breaking away from the common mobile sculpture while using/simulating natural mediums such as driftwood and green leaves.
...seriously crazy about these right now.

mobile sculpture
I love mobiles. I love seeing them in art galleries and in people's homes and all over the place. I really want to learn how to make them and have them be all ornate and balanced and magical looking. These caught my eye.

butterfly mobile
In my spare time this is what I have been creating : )

It was for my little sister's 10th birthday and she looovvveeedd it. I originally saw this

at the pottery barn kids store and thought, psh, I can just make that! So I bought cardstock, a hole puncher (for a tiny hole), fishing wire, and got a few branches from the tree in the backyard. It took some time and man, I learned the hard way that wind+this thing DO NOT mix, but it's beautiful and hanging in her room. I'm pretty happy with it : )

Light me up

I think if I started my own hotel or hostel somewhere this is how I'd want to light it. I'd start collecting the most random things I could find and make lamps out of them! What a great way to recycle old toys or the little umbrellas you get on frilly drinks huh?
Check out another one of my favorites, the Chiquita Banana Chandelier.

Last week I found myself wandering through the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Oregon and being in awe of Mandy Greer's exhibition titled Dare alla Luce.

Sandra Backlund
I think I have died and gone to Heaven.

The current issue of Vogue Knitting magazine highlights Swedish fashion designer, Sandra Backlund. Sandra experiments with different materials to create her designs, but wool yarn seems to be her favorite. She describes her work as "collage knitting" and feels that it is how she best expresses herself.
Please please take a look at her other creations on her website.
You will be more than "wow'ed."

wire creatures

By Susan Graham.
let's talk about
PAPER!!

Stunning! I also stumbled across this photo (found here) made by Kamo and couldn't resist sharing it.

Go check out her other creations at her website. They're so intricate and colorful! If I met her I'd ask her how long it takes to make them.
A while back I had mentioned that I would like to start working with paper more. I've always been intrigued by paper sculptures and other creations.
The other day the ladies over at free people posted a blog about the Chanel Couture Spring 2009 show. I was amazed at what I saw!
Besides beautiful clothes, Lagerfeld teamed up with Japanese hairdresser,Katsuya Kamo, to create stunning paper hats. "Paper roses, camellias, leaf fronds, and feathers" were cut and constructed out of white or black paper.
Here are a few photos that fp posted [via Style.com]. I do not have photoshop and thought these were already great examples...

Another artist who works with paper is Moscow/London based Yulia Brodskaya.
